The second competition day at the 2024 IFCA Slalom Foil Worlds began slowly with no wind in the early morning. Competitors and spectators were in suspense, waiting for suitable wind conditions as predicted by the local forecast.
The races could finally commence at 4 PM amidst cloudy skies. Although there was some minor shore break, the race course remained smooth, and winds began to increase every 30 minutes, setting the stage for exciting racing. Wind range: 11 to 15 knots with a slight offshore direction.
Eliminaion 3 could begin with very close races and tight turns around the marks the winner of this elimination was Alexis Mathis from France while the top contenders remain close intact in terms of points. Short after Elimination 4 started with yet another round of intense racing through all the heats, the competitors were focused and played the fair racing game with no ocs calls announced during the final heat one saw This elimination featured another round of intense racing. The event leader, Amado Vrieswijk, made an impressive comeback, accelerating past his rivals right after the last mark to secure a surprising finish ahead of the top contenders.
Today was a showcase of skilled foil racing, with most heats producing intense action and close battles up to the finish line. With one discard now in effect after three eliminations, the points remain tight among the top eight competitors.
The next day promises more racing opportunities. Another potential discard could improve some athletes’ points, making the competition even more intense.
