Day 5 brought another challenging day on the water at the 2026 IFCA Fin Slalom European Championships, with rain, gusts, changing wind and plenty of patience required from both sailors and the Race Committee.
The day eventually started by mid day, with the wind building to 14–20 knots before settling into more manageable racing conditions. The fleets made the most of every opportunity, with the Men completing Elimination 7 and the Women reaching 14 races before the conditions once again became difficult.
In the Women’s fleet, Jenna Gibson GBR-96 continues to lead after another consistent day.
Justine Lemétayer FRA-171 remains second, while Mae Davico FRA-203 moved up into third.
Femke vd Veen NED-2251 dropped to fourth again but remains firmly in the podium fight, with the points still close enough for another change on the final day.
The Men’s fleet saw another major shake-up. Nicolas Prien GER-7 continues to dominate the championship, adding to an extraordinary record of 19 heat wins from 21. Behind him, Taty Frans NB-9 made a big move up the leader board and is now second, with Sacha Fortune FRA-655 third and Brendan Lorho FRA-113 fourth.
With the points tightly packed behind Prien, every result is now crucial. Thiémé FRA-888 also remains in the Top 5, keeping the pressure on the sailors ahead.
After several changes between wind, rain and gusts throughout the afternoon, the Race Committee eventually called an end to racing at 15:09, bringing Day 5 to a close.
One final day remains, the European titles are still to be decided.
