Words From the Event Organizer Jean-Pierre Guitton
La Tranche is an ideal spot for windsurfing, kite-surfing as well as surfing because of its 13 kilometers stretch of sandy beaches with different orientations. We’ve been organising competitions every year now for at least 30 years (windsurf or kite-surf) with hopes for our spot to gain more popularity, recognition and exposure.
- Major events we previously organized:
French Cup Funboard (1990, 1991, 1992)
French Championship Raceboard (1993)
Europe Championship Raceboard (1995)
IFCA World Championship Youth and Masters (1998)
French Championship Funboard AFW (2003)
Franch Championship Formula Windsurfing and Raceboard Seniors (2007)
Moreover, we organise the « Raid La Tranche-Ile de Ré » every year, this season will be the 34th edition.
Expectations this July:
The last days have been quite warm here, but we are looking forward to thermal winds of 15-20 knots with daily activities and great competitions for the IFCA Championships , Foil races and the long distance race.
Windsurfing Stars from the region :
Currently there are no windsurfing stars in La Tranche. In the 1990’s, a few members of the club had quite a good level in open/race or funboard; Mathieu Gaborit, Alain Guitton or Clément De Chaillé. Today we encourage the young generation to take up the torch.
We are very happy to welcome all the competitors in La Tranche and we hope the atmosphere will be convivial and simple.
The IFCA Slalom Worlds for Women and the European Championships for men will take place in La Tranche sur Mer from the 4th – 8th July.
