DAY 4: EXCELON 2021 IFCA SLALOM WORLDS PAROS GREECE

Day 4 was yet another busy day at the office with a different eliminations system at the Excelon 2021 IFCA Slalom World Championships in Pounda Beach, Paros, Greece.

Today the competitors competed in a 4 heats of 12 competitors with the top 6 advancing ad the first round losers all squeezed in to the C final causing for a massive fleet racing to decide the remaining positions. Also a new course area was sailed with the approval of the the race committee.

The winds was pretty decent from 14 to 20 knots and later after mid day 18 to 25 knots across the racing area which made up for another great day full of action here in Paros.

Mens top shaking up, with Basile Jaquin FRA and Jordy Vonk NED improving their results with the top 5 still very close the Croatian Enrico Marotti keeps his racing consistence which will make the final day a very interesting one.

Basile Jaquin NC: Since the first day I was feeling really fast, I managed to win a few heats here and then sometimes like yesterday it was super windy and I felt fast but I was falling down like an idiot, I mean I was really pushing and did not wanted to make any mistakes but it just wasn’t my day. And today I managed to get things together, as I switched to my 7.8 which is the size I trust the most. During one of my good starts I passed Enrico Marotti CRO-401 and thought Ok, thats good. We did another one in strong winds and I manged to get 3rd. The conditions here are super, and the fleet here is really though and no one makes mistakes which makes things very difficult. I look forward to tomorrow and hopefully strong wind because I don’t “like light wind and big gear.”

Martin Moeller NOR: It has been 2 difficult years living in Norway without much possibility to get outside, So I have not been training that much to make that top 5, even though it was my aim for this event. I was aiming for the top 5 for sure but uh, I am just not good enough at the moment. I just did an OCS in heat #5. I am just gonna stay positive and focus full on on the last day. I enjoy t here so much, its windy everyday and the place is full of nice people and Paros been delivering wind every day. Looking at the results Sebastian Kornum DEN is 1 points upfront and Ingmar Daldorf NED and me is a tie so the top 10 is still quite tight, so we will definitively have a serious fight the last day.

Jordy Vonk NED: Its always been tight in points here, yesterday I was 5th and it was only 3 points and Enrico in first, now basile joins the top and its now 6 guys that are fully fighting … I have been on that consistency and now if you count the discard I guess I now show the stability. The last day is gonna be exciting I can still drop and I believe we all will be pushing till the end.

The Women’s event leader since day 1 Jenna Gibson GBR found her self with some real competition today Sarah Jackson GBR also had a very busy day by winning race #20 after nailing a perfect start followed by an OCS in the last race of the day. The 3rd position belongs to Olivia Rosique FRA who managed to win Race #17 while she continued performing consistent and is now 14 points away from Tuesday-Lou Judd FRA.
