2019 IFCA SALOM EUROS DAY 2: KEEPING UP THE MOTIVATION

The second competition day here in Paros was yet another easy one.
Competitors once again were on announcements throughout the day with hopes of a little breeze in the late afternoon, which was not the case.
A fun Sup Challenge took place while others continue their discovery of Paros and its beauty.

Jenna Gibson from Great Britain – The 2018 Slalom Female World Champion is back and talks staying ready:
I always try to be prepared for racing, even if the forecast looks bad, in my head I still have to tell myself we could be racing if not I lose focus, and if the wind starts filling in I rig two sails and have everything ready just to be prepared, but for sure after doing that for 5 days – back in La Tranche at the Women Worlds – without getting on the water it’s easy to get lazy so that week I was definitely learning and practicing to keep my motivation and my routine the same, just in case the racing did happen.

After having a big break from international competitions since winning in Denmark I’m just super excited to be racing again, I’d like to see how I’ve improved over the winter and I always find out what I need to work on next when racing at international events, so I’m ready to discover what to make my next focus. Unfortunately, I’m not well prepared for this event at all. I had surgery 2 months ago and have only been on the water a few times since. The last time I was on my small board was April! I only wanted to travel with 3 board bags, so I took only 5 sails, which means I am without my 4.7 in Paros. It’s a big risk! I also had the option to pick between my 98 and 89 liter Falcon but chose the 98 as I’ve had more practice on this board. After not being on the water much I think it’s more important to pick the kit that I’m most used to.

Tomorrow’s forecast predicts South winds and by midday the usual Northerly thermal direction. Everyone, including the race committee, is looking forward to finally get things started after a few lazy and cozy relaxing days here on the Pounda beach at Paros kite.

Skippers meeting is scheduled for 09:00
