This year’s Curacao Challenge which takes place 14-17 May will be joined by professional windsurfers from all around the world!
The women’s fleet is shaping up to be quite interesting. All the way from the Netherlands, Arrianne Aukes (RRD, Simmer Style) has confirmed her participation in both freestyle and slalom. Being ranked 2nd in the 2013 PWA freestyle world tour and claiming multiple podium spots at the 2014 PWA Indoor event in Poland are only some of the achievements that should make other female competitors make the best out of their last training month before the challenge! The female fleet will be broadened by other riders like the upcoming freestyle talent from Austria – Carina Staltner.
To most of the locals it may not come as a surprise as the 2013 PWA freestyle world champion is regularly guesting at Curacao’s freestyle spot the Spanish Waters!
Kiri Thode (Gaastra, Starboard) is a windsurfer who doesn’t need much of an introduction. Being widely known for his style and innovation in terms of tricks makes him an inspiration for many of the upcoming freestyle kids!
One to maybe put Kiri out of the running during this year’s challenge is his friend from Bonaire, Youp Schmit (99 NoveNove, Avanti) who made his mark in windsurfing news not only by being one of the youngest ever participants on the PWA world tour a few years back, but also with the results he is producing right now. Not to mention the fact that he has still only turned 20. And we guess his quest for the double air culo couldn’t have slipped past your attention as well!
Youp has confirmed his participation in freestyle (not that we might have expected otherwise!)
