IFCA: Its not the first time that there will be a IFCA Slalom Championship event at
your home spot. How do you feel about that ?
Damien: I’m super stocked to again take part in the European championship, on my home spot, Almanarre !
I can not hope for anything better than that, It’s such a good place to windsurf and for racing. It’s the fourth time that I participate in a IFCA championship, and I’m feeling super exiting.

IFCA:What can you tell us about your home spot Almanarre plage?
Damien: I started windsurfing in Almanarre 10 years ago, and I have to tell you that you can have all kind of conditions, It’s the strength of this spot. Last year, we had choppy conditions with medium wind. This year, we could have, flat water, High Wind with waves, Light wind, Thermal Winds, you just never know.

IFCA: How was your winter season and how did you prepare for the upcoming season?
Damien: I changed my boards this year and I’m waiting for a new shipment, but I trained hard to prepare for this upcoming season.

IFCA: What are your favourite combination of Almanarre conditions and equipment?
Damien: I would like to say that I’ve no favourite conditions… but, for racing, if we had East winds, I’d be on a 7,8 with my medium board and it will be perfect.

IFCA: Last year during the JYM European Championship event you had a few close
battles and even took the first position in some elimination rounds. You did show great
potential, what will you do differently this year ?
Damien: Last year I managed to have a podium, this year Nicolas Goyard is gone,

SO I AM AIMING FOR THE TITLE

But I have to focus on my Jibe and my starts, I know that I have great speed, I just have to be more consistent.

IFCA: Who are your training buddies ( and which one of them do you keep an eye on)?
Damien: I’m training during all the season with Jimmy Thieme and Benjamin Adjihou and they are in form, so I probably have to keep an eye on them. Basile Jacquin is coming from New Caledonia, He finished third at the world championship this year, It promises a great battle between us. 🙂

IFCA: Thanks for your time Damien We wish you all the best for this championship.
Damien: A big Thanks to my sponsors : Neilpryde – JP australia – Glissfactory Hotmer Almanarre
