DAY 4: AFTER RAIN COMES SUNSHINE

Day 4 “Back at it Again”

A rainy morning caused for a lot commotion on Day 4. the skippers meeting was at 08:00, however the wind was weak, the water very choppy and it looked like a storm was brewing. After a few postponements the races could finally start somewhat after 10:00.

The conditions were very tricky (shifty and unstable) after a few cancellations, and re-sailed heats, elimination 2 of the men finally got completed including elimination 3 of the women.

After a short break, elimination 3 for the men and elimination 4 for the women could finally start.
The day continued with light winds from 12 knots and sometimes up to 15 knots. The race committee did not want to waist anytime and tried their best to keep the races going.
A few heats still kept being canceled and re-sailed until the wind suddenly got too light with no intentions to return.

High lights Men:
Marco Begalli ITA-415 back in form and avoiding yesterdays mistakes, passing all his with great board speed.  The RS:X sailor from Croatia Luka Mratovic CRO-751 already showed great light wind skills yesterday and performed well today with a nice 2nd place after leading his heat but Vincent Langer GER-1 has been keeping his game up here in Croatia.

High lights Women:
Maja Dziarnowska POL-7 the RS:X sailor who showed great technical and light wind skills throughout the course, winning elimination 3 and continued her great performance with a second place in the 4th elimination.
Guilbaud Maelle FRA-551 was fast and kept it save, also performed well today. Marianne Rautelin FIN-13 with a more consistent performance taking top positions in both eliminations.

Some words from:
Maria Andres: I had fun today and I like these kind of conditions as it gets a little tricky around the marks and its exciting to see who gets on a plain earlier and that is fun. I made a few mistakes today as the wind was shifty at sometimes so I tried to get good starts but so did everyone so you can imagine if all girls try and start next to the boat on the upwind side. Guilbaud Maelle FRA-551 is one of the girls out there who has great potential, she has great board speed and is that someone I will keep an eye on.

Marianne Rautelin: It was a good and bad day for me… I actually caught something on my fin in the first round so a bit disappointed there, but If I look back on the first day I can say that I am happy about my speed but it was just a bit different story today especially when every one wanted to start at the boat today, with a good start you could have a good round and I remember I got squeezed by the others once. Some of the young girls are super fast and some are improving and I m sure they will be good in the near future. At the end of the day I am happy to be here in this beautiful country with nice scenery and clear blue waters, I will definitely come back for Holidays.

Luka Mratovic: Today was less wind and it is my specialty as I am a RS:X competitor. This is just a way of training for me as I pretty much focus on my main discipline and of course the 2016 RIO Olympics.
My gear is not the best but I am happy with my performances and I feel good with this kind of weather.

Marco Begalli: Today I was on 9.2 full power in every heat. I was a bit sad as I was winning a final but our heat got canceled, after yesterdays mistake I tried to make no more mistakes and that was a bit of a disappointment. In the end I am happy with my performance today also for Francesco Scagliola who did great against the big men today.. so it was a good day for us.

The day continued with tricky conditions and the wind was just getting lighter and lighter.
The sun came out and competitors were put on standby for the rest of the afternoon until the day was called of by the Race officer.

Tomorrows skippers meeting is scheduled for 08:30, the forecast predicts similar conditions.
